The 2017 Portfolio Review begins tomorrow! Photographers and reviewers will be checking in today from all over the country and world – and we are so excited to greet them. The Reviews are a whirlwind of activity: portfolio reviews every day, a Portfolio Walk at the Portland Art Musuem, a fabulous new Photobook Fair, lunchtime chats, swanky shindigs for reviewers and photographers alike, and more photography than you can shake a stick at. Through it all, the most incredible thing is the connections that happen. Friendships spring up, photographers are offered exhibitions and publications, and for one beautiful long weekend, the photography world is a community. It’s really inspiring.
If you’re not registered for the Reviews this year, there are still ways you can join the fun. The Portfolio Walk happens on Thursday night at the Portland Art Museum (Fields Ballroom, Mark Building) from 6-9pm. See more photography in one night than most people see in a lifetime!
Our first Photobook Fair happens on Friday night at the lovely Blue Sky Gallery (6:30-9pm). There, you’ll get to see beautiful books by some great independent publishers. Photobooks truly are an art in themselves, so we’re excited to showcase some of the very best in fine-art photo publishing today. Come out and meet the publishers and the photographers!
Also, there are photography exhibitions scattered all over Portland right now, because it’s Portland Photo Month! Not in town? Take a look at our online Participant Index to see a slideshow of images by all the photographers attending this year’s Review. There’s a wonderful, wide diversity of talent to see!
