Photolucida Call for Board Members

Photolucida is looking to expand our Board of Directors! We are an established, dynamic, respected photographic arts organization based in Portland, Oregon with a global reach. Programming information can be found on our about page. Our board is not local to Portland – meetings are held online, so being based elsewhere is not a problem!

A general description of the role: Board members should accomplish their functions through regular meetings and by helping to establish a committee structure that is appropriate to the size of the organization. Ideally, Board members should arrive at meetings prepared and ready to engage in thoughtful dialogue, and contribute to a group process which generates and uses the best thinking of its members. Board members should truly want to contribute to Photolucida’s sustainable growth and show a commitment to the organization’s mission statement:  To increase people’s understanding of the world through photography by nurturing photographers, furthering dialogue about photography, and building community.

Valued skills would include: Development expertise – fundraising, grant research & writing, DEI work. Financial analysis, networking, prospect identification, sponsorship development, and creative thinking. Formal board training or previous board experience is essential!

We are especially interested in hearing from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals.

*please note – board members are not allowed to participate in our programming as photographers, so if you intend to submit to Critical Mass or be a reviewed photographer at the Portfolio Reviews, this role is not for you. You will, however, be asked to participate in varying degrees in the roles of juror and reviewer.
