Photolucida is super-pleased to be awarding 25+ copies of Running Falling Flying Floating Crawling (Saint Lucy Books, 2020) with as many CM21 finalists in September after jurying ends. Edited by Mark Alice Durant (one of our pre-screeners this year!), this mysterious, ethereal and compelling tome gives the viewer/reader a deeply-affecting experience while pondering the various examples of extreme “being” – most falling outside one’s daily stasis – “rapidly plummeting” being on one end of the experiential spectrum, “quiet transcendence” being on the other. As the apogee of free-fall a body is briefly weightless. But photographs can transform every point along an arc into its zenith. Their stillness affords us time to see the glowing edges of things, the beauty of form, the quiet instead of the clanging insistence of passing time and the rushing air of free-fall.
