As a visual storyteller, my objective is to create works that explore the complex themes of personal history and identity through the use of meticulously curated vintage family photographs. Each image serves as a conduit, filled with memories and emotions, enabling me to examine the narratives that shape our lives.
My project, The Reluctant Caregiver, offers an in-depth exploration of my seventeen years of caregiving for my mother while also reflecting my burgeoning interest in the secrets she harbored throughout her life. Having been raised in a military family, discussions regarding the past were frequently eclipsed by the demands of the present, resulting in numerous unanswered questions and fragmented memories. Following my mother’s passing, I discovered a collection of photographs that seemed to reveal hidden truths.
These images capture significant moments that contribute to a broader narrative, illustrating themes of joy, sorrow, and resilience. Through my artistic practice, I strive to illuminate these silent stories and address the unresolved questions surrounding my family’s history.
