This project, for a book and exhibition, evolved from a discovery of work from the 1970’s and 80’s. My archive assistant scanned ALL my 8x10 inch silver work prints from that era. Half of the submitted photos are from a treasure trove of “found” photos that I had printed but hadn’t seen in the decades since. I am excited to show this work. They share a sensibility with the other half of photos that are from my series “Structured Moments” which had two solo exhibitions in 1982. I have continued to exhibit those photos in group exhibitions.
Imagist poetry is my primary artistic inspiration. An adagia of imagist poet Wallace Stevens about poets holds true for this submitted project: “The poet is the intermediary between people and the world in which they live and also as between people as themselves: but not between people and some other world.”
I am a quiet, intuitive, photographer. My process is to walk around, slowly, led by my camera lens and instincts and stop only when I feel motivated and captivated to press the shutter.
For all the work submitted the camera I used was a Leica M-2 with a Leica 35mm, f/2 summicron lens. I used Tri-X film.
