What are the in-person Portfolio Reviews?

The In-Person Portfolio Reviews are the heart of the Photolucida 2009 festival. Gallery owners, curators, critics, collectors and publishers representing small, mid-sized, and major venues from all over the US and abroad, gather in Portland to review work.

Photographers at the mid-career level register for one-on-one meetings with the reviewers of their choice. Each review session lasts for 20 minutes and we limit the number of participants to assure that everyone receives 4 or 5 reviews per day. It's a great way to network. Numerous photographers have walked away with opportunities to exhibit, publish and sell their work after attending the Portfolio Reviews.

Participants of the Portfolio Reviews are eligible to stay at the Benson Hotel at a special Photolucida rate. If you choose to stay at the hotel during the Portfolio Reviews, please inform the Benson that you are a Photolucida participant when registering for rooms at the hotel.

Level of Work Expected at Portfolio Reviews

Photolucida does not jury it’s Portfolio Reviews, but we strive to keep the level of work of participants high. Participants should be mid-career photographers, with a recent history of exhibitions and/or publication. For a good reference of where your work should be professionally, please look at the work of artists in Critical Mass Top 50.

Photographer's Master Index

All participants (both reviewers and photographers) will receive a printed Photographer's Master Index. The index will include contact information for each photographer, along with a full color large thumbnail image representative of each participant's work.
