The full experience of divorce is complex and confusing for young kids, but is often brushed over because children are resilient and a mother’s reflex is to tell them it will be all right, to buck up. But what do they feel during this time? After my husband and I separated 3 years ago, I began to notice tension and longing in images of my kids, and was forced to confront the emotions that linger there. I am drawn to the photographs that reveal what lies under the surface, often unsaid or unrealized. This series is an expression of our shared inner life, as we navigate our new days together as a family of three.
