The Art of Hollywood
As digital technologies have transformed filmmaking, the painted canvas backdrops that once defined Hollywood have quietly disappeared. The Art of Hollywood revisits this lost craft, bringing new life to these remarkable hand-painted sets. Travelling to Los Angeles, I photographed against these forgotten backdrops, creating cinematic scenes that echo the atmosphere and romance of classic films.
The project also draws inspiration from the golden age of hand-painted film posters, where a single image could capture the emotion, drama, and spectacle of an entire story. Adopting this visual language, I construct photographs that celebrate the artistry of illusion while reimagining Hollywood's visual heritage through a contemporary lens.
