Cathy Cone

The series "Apparent Close-Up " is a series of 23 photogravures that I made during my residency at the Tusen Takk Foundation in November of 2022. This portrait series began as a poetic inquiry using the transparent material that covers the photopolymer plate. I begin to photograph and re-photograph through this cover material while sensing and inviting elements that resonated . The veiling of the subject is a way of unveiling , using stitching and marking in a layered self-revelatory image. I've been chasing after the portrait as a way to fuse past and present. It's a multi sensory
layered experience that gets distilled into a single image.
