Having grown up in post-Soviet Georgia, I witnessed the civil war which tore apart my country in the 1990s. My country has survived countless wars and conflicts, and I – like all Georgians – have paid a personal price for its survival: Some of my family members died during the war, and many of my friends were forced to leave their homes and seek a better life abroad. War and extreme situations have had a very deep emotional impact on me. For the past four years, I have been documenting the plight of the peoples of the Caucasus – Chechen refugees living in Georgia; who have escaped the deadly war in Chechnya and now live in a isolated region of Pankisi Gorge, Georgian refugees; forced to flee their homes after the war with Russia in 2008 and the Political Situation that has always been restless in a small but chaotic country of Georgia. I feel deeply connected with the subjects I am documenting. With my photographs I want to make people feel something emotionally and let them think about what its like for others in different regions. We live our lives and forget that there are so many struggling . I think it lets us see many aspects of our own lives from a new perspective.
