Sabiq (2017) The work, shot in January 2017, captures the on going war between iraqi military forces, kurdish peshmerga forces and the so called islamic state, in northern Iraq. Precisely, I focused on the region between Erbil and Mosul. Using the devastated landscape as a backdrop, I developed my own subjective view on this insane inferno which is happening right now just 3 hours by plane away form central Europe. I worked in an antithesis way of the decisive moment to create images which are giving a glimpse of the for and after of an situation and at the same time strew confusion, to confront the viewer with this unbelievable end time scenario. Through that the act of photographing and piecing them together becomes a form of cryptography.
